The Life of an Egg

"In every child who is born, under no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again." -J.Agee

Location: Los Angeles, California

I am addicted to Flamin Hot Cheetos, goat cheese, rainbow sherbet, and hummus. I want to meet Paul Farmer. I can't touch library books because they smell. I have a tattoo of the tree of life on my back. I have a problem with picking at my nails when I'm nervous, stressed out, or bored. I am irrationally proud of being from California. One of my main goals in life is to be a good person. And finally, please don't ask for medical advice, especially if it involves any sort of discharge.

another rotation

It's been a while... I've been unusually busy, doing what, I'm not sure! :)

I finished up my advocacy rotation today with Child Protective Services. It's been a great experience, evaluating children for child abuse or medical neglect. I don't know how anyone would be able to do this for a living because it's intense... There are so many fucked up social situations that you wouldn't even believe could be possible... Here's a link to the Chicago Tribune article about the first case of Shaken Baby that I saw on the rotation. I don't know if the link will work for everyone but basically, a young father shook his baby to death. He's now in jail with a $1 million bail, which is highly unusual for such cases because it's so hard to prove intent.

Tomorrow I start ambulatory which is outpatient general peds clinic for the rest of the month. I'm slowly starting to panic about my loss of freedom, as I approach my first NICU month. EEK.

This past weekend, in addition to helping a friend move and a trip to Ravinia with friends to hear Yo Yo Ma, we saw "Little Miss Sunshine." I loved it!! It's about a dysfunctional family on a road trip to California for this beauty pageant Little Miss Sunshine. I laughed and teared up and totally related to several scenes, especially the ones in CA.
