The Life of an Egg

"In every child who is born, under no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again." -J.Agee

Location: Los Angeles, California

I am addicted to Flamin Hot Cheetos, goat cheese, rainbow sherbet, and hummus. I want to meet Paul Farmer. I can't touch library books because they smell. I have a tattoo of the tree of life on my back. I have a problem with picking at my nails when I'm nervous, stressed out, or bored. I am irrationally proud of being from California. One of my main goals in life is to be a good person. And finally, please don't ask for medical advice, especially if it involves any sort of discharge.

clear fluid!

A common procedure that we, pediatricians, do are spinal taps, otherwise known as lumbar punctures. When we stick the needle in just right, the spinal fluid comes out completely clear, without any red blood cells. Back in February, I had a spinal tap with 1 red blood cell found microscopically per 1 ml of spinal fluid. Close, but not completely bloodless.

Yesterday, I did a spinal tap on a 10 year old and got 0 red blood cells. A champagne tap!

The tradition is that the senior person (resident, attending, etc) buys the resident who got a champagne tap a bottle of champagne. :) Except this was for a neurology patient so I doubt the neurology residents even noticed but still! it's celebratory!
