The Life of an Egg

"In every child who is born, under no matter what circumstances, and of no matter what parents, the potentiality of the human race is born again." -J.Agee

Location: Los Angeles, California

I am addicted to Flamin Hot Cheetos, goat cheese, rainbow sherbet, and hummus. I want to meet Paul Farmer. I can't touch library books because they smell. I have a tattoo of the tree of life on my back. I have a problem with picking at my nails when I'm nervous, stressed out, or bored. I am irrationally proud of being from California. One of my main goals in life is to be a good person. And finally, please don't ask for medical advice, especially if it involves any sort of discharge.

a golden weekend

Thursday night I had the worst call ever. I literally spent 8 hours dealing with a patient who became suicidal and trying to get this medically-complex patient transferred to a psychiatric hospital, better-equipped to handle him than we were. It was one of the most frustrating experiences of my residency.

Luckily, this was my golden weekend. (meaning that I got two days off in a ROW!) woohoo.

Friday night, we went to Quartino for Armand's off-service dinner. They have the best gnocchi!

Saturday morning, we went to a baby shower brunch for a co-resident and his wife. Here I am examining a warm and fuzzy "bundleme."

We had fruit, bagels and lox, and a wonderful egg/potato frittata, accompanied by mimosas. Dance Dance Revolution had just been whipped out when we had to leave early to go see the Maps exhibit at the Field Museum.

It was the second-to-last day and totally sold-out. We paid extra to get the audio tour, which was well worth it. Museum Campus has one of the best views in the city:

Then Saturday evening, we attended the Third Annual Robert Burns night at Matt's place! With haggis and whiskey. I got embarassed this year and didn't read my favorite poem "Cock Up Your Beaver" but maybe next year...

Sunday was spent doing laundry and dishes and addressing our save-the-date magnets!

The Worst Sore Throat EVER

WARNING: gross pictures ahead...

I am just now, finally recovering from the worst sore throat I have ever had. It lasted 9 days. I could barely breathe, speak, or eat. Actually, I continued to stuff my face, but it HURT every time I swallowed. I stole this picture from a foreign website (http://www.akh-consilium.at/) but this is almost what my throat looked like, except on a much smaller scale, and without so much exudate. At first, I thought I had strep throat but I strolled down to the ER where I'm working now and the test was negative... plus, another clue was that it wouldn't go away. I think it might have been coxsackie... I heard it was going around. NINE days later, I'm finally better, but I'm really bitter that it stayed for so long...

Plus, we had to cancel our reservations at Charlie Trotter's because I wasn't going to spend hundreds of dollars on the best meal of my life, when I still had the worst sore throat my entire life. arggg.

anniversary

January 6th was the 4 year anniversary of Armand and me. This important date briefly escaped my mind when I was picking the date for our off-service dinner. Oops. But I knew that we were going to celebrate later at Charlie Trotter's, so it just means we get to celebrate again!

Here's a picture of us at Tarasca's where the whole NICU team (sans one intern) drank margaritas, enjoyed great burritos, and laughed the night away.

Happy 2008

Happy 2008 everyone.

I had a precious 4-day stretch at home in sunny California... oh, how I wish I was there instead of in cold windy Chicago. We seem to be having a particularly deep freeze this week and my radiators just aren't doing their job! I need to go to Home Depot to get those window plastic coverings that I've been hearing about.

At home, I mostly hung out with my family. My sister also had vacation so we went to pinkberry almost every day. Yum. We saw Charlie Wilson's War which was interesting, but not that action-packed so at times, boring. We went shopping for dresses and again, bemoaned the fact that we are not as rich as we would like. :)

and of course we had our traditional korean new years celebration.

Here I am being a great role model for my lil cousin, Danny. I don't even like beer. :)

I was surprised with a brand new digital camera for christmas! My old one takes really great pictures but it's slow and clunky and will occasionally poop out on me for no apparent reason. It's 6 years old though so maybe it was time. My new one is a canon and I can't wait to start using it!
Here is a belated Christmas picture of us:
